ok, check this out. we drove 7 hours to Leeds, got stuck in a
mega traffic jam, arrived at the venue, found a parking space,
jumped out, hot footed it into the venue and..... got told by a silly man
we had been struck off the bill and wouldn't be playing. brilliant. thanks dude,
cheers, ta, oh great, nice, thats friendly, way to go, fine.
so we ate crappy ASK food and set about on another 7 drive home, got stuck
in another traffic jam and felt wierd. is it any wonder i can't be botherd to start sentences
with capitals or format text? is it any wonder we dressed up in scarfs? i mean.
sorry Leeds people, the world is run by coconuts. peace & coffees x x x

We will be piling and pushing into the West End this monday and onstage at 9pm sharp, supporting those black and white clad Bishops. We're playing the beautiful Coronet Theatre in Elephant and Castle with the likes of The Hot Puppies and Twisted Charm, with DJ sets from Good Shoes and Men in Masks. Should be a right old laugh.

On at 5 so get down early, although that does mean you miss both Songs of Praise and The Antiques Roadshow. Sorry.

Hey folks, today we announce the loss of a great talent and the
discovering of another. Lush has left Assembly Now and passed
the baton...on. Here's a message from Lush:

Due to musical differences, I am vacating the Assembly Now drum stool.
The last couple of years have been an adventure... I've met Kate Moss,
been on MTV and autographed a multitude of teenage breasts. Thank you
to everyone who has supported my contribution to the band since the
beginning, it's been 79% fun and 21% sweaty.

Graphs, Maps & Trees is released a week today on Monday 6 August! To celebrate, we're going into XFM to record a special live session for their Music Response show the very same day. We've also got a special surprise song planned that you will not want to miss, it's going to be boss. Tune in from 7pm GMT on 104.9FM in London, digital radio nationwide and internet radio worldwide next Monday!

Thanks to everyone who's been coming to the shows recently... Bath, Bristol and last night at London Proud Gallery were all completely packed and amazing. One group of particularly excited fans threw flowers at Howard and he responded by falling off the stage. Rock and, indeed, roll.

You can also now preorder the single from HMV, Sister Ray, Pure Groove (they've used the wrong artwork but it's definitely the right single) and Kids. We'll also put an iTunes/mp3 download link up for you digital geeks as soon as we get the info.

Kerrang Radio

Kerrang Radio asked us to do an interview at their Birmingham headquarters yesterday, so we paid them a visit before playing our Wolverhampton gig. After numerous cups of tea and free copies of Kerrang magazine, we plonked our bottoms down in their spacious studio and talked about lots of things: the upcoming single, life on the road, being incredibly rich and famous and, er, Donny Tourette and his punk "credentials".

We'll be doing another radio appearance on BBC Radio Bristol this Thursday, where we'll be playing an acoustic session and doing an interview. Tuuuuune in!

Southampton Joiners

Our tour van doesn't have a radio because it got nicked by some lightfingered scally, so on the way to Southampton we listened to the Wimbledon tennis final on Gavin's portable radio that he keeps in his shower. Why it's in the shower, we can only speculate; perhaps he likes to sing along to Cyndi Lauper whilst washing his rippling six-pack. This hideous little radio is covered in limescale and mould, and drips water everywhere so we had to carefully wrap it in newspaper whilst straining to listen to Rafael Nadal getting his arse handed to him by Roger Federer.

The Runners played a blinding set and managed to smash some photographer's camera at the same time. If that's not rock 'n' roll, I don't know what is. During our own set, Howard's bass blew up during the first song and he had to scramble to fix it before anyone noticed we were playing without a bass guitar. Perhaps the audience thought we were The White Stripes for a moment, albeit with a slightly more butch drummer.

As we left Southampton, we challenged the Runners boys to a race at a red light. As the light turned green, our crappy tour van span its wheels and got ahead by a car length... but then disaster. The Runners sneakily cheated by throwing grapes as us through the window, thus disturbing the air-convection outflow of the catalytic vortex-enhancer and their gay little hatchback zoomed ahead of us into the night.

Tomorrow things will be different. We'll be bringing grapefruit.

Having a website is a bit like having a new mobile phone. It rarely works properly, you keep deleting important stuff by accident, and when you do finally figure it all out... it's completely out of date.

This clever and, I daresay, witty analogy leads us nicely along to the new Assembly Now website which you are reading right now. Check out the video. Awesome. Check out the music. Wicked. Check out the photos. Righteous. We'll also be posting lots of regular news, photos etc because this entire site is actually a dynamic blog. For those of you who enjoy the whole RSS/Atom feed thing (I don't because I'm an idiot and can't make it work) then you can do that too - see bottom of page. Just don't tell your mother.

Colin Murray on BBC Radio 1

Me and Tony - the manager of the good ship Assembly Now and all-round nice guy - have a special ritual which we conduct at least twice a week. It involves me being fast asleep at 11am, and him calling me on my mobile phone with something urgent. The fact that my ringtone is A Kind Of Magic by Queen probably doesn't help matters, but you can imagine my general lack of enthusiasm (and verbal diplomacy) when woken early in order to have an intricate discussion about tour insurance. Yes 11am is early, leave me alone.

Anyway, yesterday morning Tony conducted The Ritual with his usual vigour and informed me that Colin Murray played our single on Radio 1 the other night. And I quote Mr Murray... 'This one's called Graphs, Maps & Trees... it's beautiful'. Why thank you Colin.

Then I went back to sleep.
